SUMMARY:The Power of Her: Education\, Advocacy & Black Maternal Health
DESCRIPTION:In recognition of Black Maternal Health Week\, this physician-led class centers the voices\, experiences\, and health of Black women. Led by a female OB/GYN\, this empowering and informative session will explore the current state of Black maternal health\, the factors contributing to disparities\, and actionable steps to improve outcomes for Black mothers and families. \nParticipants will gain insight into navigating prenatal and postpartum care\, advocating for themselves within healthcare settings\, recognizing warning signs\, and understanding their rights and options. This class creates a supportive space for open dialogue\, community connection\, and education grounded in both clinical expertise and lived experience. \nTogether\, we will move beyond awareness toward empowerment—because protecting Black mothers starts with knowledge\, advocacy\, and collective action. \nThis class is lead by Dr. Porche’ Adams\, DO. Dr. Adams is an Obstetrics and Gynecology specialist based in Chattanooga\, TN. Dr. Adams is currently an OB/GYN at Women’s Health Services. She completed her education and training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine at Chattanooga\, following her graduation from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine Georgia Campus in 2019. She also holds a Masters of Public Health from Mercer University.
