The Woodhouse Day Spa {Review}

2-2

The Woodhouse Day Spa is located in Chattanooga’s southside district in Warehouse Row. The area is currently experiencing a bit of a renaissance with great restaurants, unique shops, and a really neat vibe. Upon entering the building at 1110 Market Street, it is clear that there is extreme attention to detail. Grand architecture, high-end touches, and beautiful lighting are the first thing I noticed. The Woodhouse Day Spa is located on the second floor of Building North, and the area is well marked. Other offerings in Warehouse Row include upscale retailers such as Anthropologie, J. Crew, and Lululemon Athletica, so a luxurious day spa fits right in and compliments the shopping and dining options incredibly well.

The Atmosphere

Inside the spa, the atmosphere is everything it should be: clean, modern, and serene. The ladies at the front desk are incredibly friendly, and they are prompt to get the treatments started. The locker rooms are equipped with lockers, incredibly plush robes, and sandals. Once you are ready for your treatment, you go to the relaxation room, where you find fruit-infused spa water and hot tea. There are various styles of seating, with magazines scattered throughout. If you were visiting the spa with a friend, you could easily sit together and relax, but it is also easy to find your own space. The room is dimly lit, with a fireplace, and I was encouraged to enjoy the room both before and after services. It would be a shame to not take advantage of this offer. I could have stayed in this room all day. It puts you in the right headspace before treatment, and it allows you to relax a little longer afterward so you’re not suddenly jolted back to reality.

The Services

Ashley’s Organic Discovery Facial

I have never had a facial before, but my esthetician, Kate, made sure I felt completely at ease before we began. Kate was warm and cheerful. We chatted about my skincare routine, and she asked me about any specific concerns I might have, making sure I was comfortable with everything she was going to do. What followed was 50 minutes of creams, emollients, hot towels, exfoliation, and scalp massage. There was the option to heat the massage table, which I did, of course. After Kate performed the facial, there was even a brief hand and foot massage, which was a delightful surprise. When the service ended, I left feeling cleansed and dewy. The treatment I received is recommended typically every four to six weeks, and I will definitely return to maintain the results. The Woodhouse’s website recommends this particular facial “for the first time spa-goer or a new Woodhouse guest who simply wants a taste of the goodness we have to offer.” It definitely fit the bill.

Melissa’s Swedish Massage

I received a lovely Swedish massage from a masseuse by the name of Sally. From the start, Sally was warm and friendly, and she was quick to be sure that I was comfortable and satisfied. The massage room was large, with minimal decor and exposed brick (I’m a sucker for exposed brick). She took the time to review my personal information, and then we got started. To get to the point, she was awesome! She was responsive to what I needed; when she found a tender spot, she lightened her touch when I asked her to. She matched my level of conversation as well — she was quiet when I was quiet, and she was quick witted and friendly when I was talkative and cracking jokes. She also promised to keep massaging even if I fell asleep, which was a real concern. I stayed awake through sheer willpower alone! After peeling myself off the table and stumbling out of the room, Sally offered me water and a chance to sit back down in the relaxation room. I never felt rushed, which is a feat, since it was closing time, and no one seemed like they wanted me to leave quickly.

Overall Impressions

Would I go back? Of course. I can’t wait to try the entire menu of services, and I would recommend The Woodhouse Day Spa to anyone who is looking for the complete spa experience. The spa’s website offers thorough descriptions of each service, and some are even accompanied by videos. They offer individual services, spa days, group parties, offerings for couples, as well as specific “gentleman” options. With the holidays around the corner, the gift of a spa package (for yourself or someone else) from The Woodhouse Day Spa would be the perfect way to relax, refresh, and renew.

Melissa CMBAbout Melissa

Greetings! I’m Melissa, and I am an East Tennessean through and through. I grew up outside of Knoxville and came to college here in Chattanooga. Despite a 3-year interruption of trying out the Nashville area, Chattanooga has my heart. I love the mountains and water, the localized area, the personality of the city, and the small town feel that Chattanooga has to offer.

I’ve been married to my wonderful husband, the Urban Woodsman, for over 10 years, and we have two rambunctious boys – Owen (age 5) and Jude (age 3). They are 19 months apart, and life with two that close in age is never dull!
