If you have a school-aged child, I’m sure you’ve heard the importance of summer reading. As a teacher, this is the number one thing I recommend to parents to ensure their child retains what they learned over the school year. Thanks to our local libraries, reading doesn’t have to be seen as a chore this summer!
Here’s a list of libraries in our area and a run-down of their summer reading programs:
Chattanooga Public Library: This is the largest library in our area and it has several branches across the Scenic City. Classes and activities are offered daily across the different branches. You can sign your child up for their “Make. Play. Read. Learn.” summer reading program here. It’s not too late to join!
Cherokee Regional Library System: With several locations across North Georgia, Cherokee Regional Libraries always offer a fun and engaging summer reading program! Offering many classes and activities during the summer months, this is a great place to keep your child’s wheels spinning while school’s out. Register for their summer reading program called “Adventure Begins at Your Library” here.
Catoosa County Library: Also located in North Georgia, the Catoosa County Library offers a summer reading challenge to keep your kids competitive while reading!
Northwest Georgia Regional Library System: For our friends in Whitfield and Gordon counties, the Northwest Georgia Regional Library System has set up a fun reading challenge to ensure children keep reading all summer long.
