If you’re a winter sports enthusiast, Chattanooga may not seem like the prime location for finding fresh snow. Don’t let that discourage you though; there are several ski resorts within driving distance you can enjoy all winter long!

Ski Resorts Close to Chattanooga

Ober Gatlinburg – Clocking in at right under three hours from Chattanooga, Ober Gatlinburg is the closest and most well known ski resort in relation to the Scenic City. This snow village sits atop Gatlinburg, TN and is a snow skier’s dream, especially with your family in tow. Offering skiing, snowboarding, snow tubing, ice skating, and lessons, you can spend your days playing in the snow. Don’t worry; even if there hasn’t been any real snow during the season, they pump in fake snow to keep visitors happy. There are endless lodging and restaurant options to top off your weekend. Wristbands are $59 on the weekend and $39 if you’re over 60 years old.

Sapphire Valley – This ski resort in North Carolina offers skiing, snowboarding, and tubing. They also have a ski school, lodging, and dining options on site! If you have ever wanted to experience snow skiing, snow boarding, snow tubing or ice skating but never had the opportunity, here is your chance.

Appalachian Ski Mountain – Located in Blowing Rock, NC, this ski resort offers everything you need. Lodging, restaurants, lessons for the whole family, and a nursery for young children. You can stay on the property your entire trip and never get in the car. This location is about 5 hours away from Chattanooga. Learn to ski or snowboard with the Southeast’s oldest and best known ski school, the French-Swiss Ski College. Group and private lessons are taught in a safe, fun and friendly environment. Our dedicated instructors teach newcomers and coach intermediate skiers and snowboarders seeking to improve their skills.

Cataloochee Ski Area – Locating in Maggie Valley, NC this is another nearby ski resort that can meet your skiing needs. Lessons, group rates, lodging, and equipment rental are all available at this popular resort. This North Carolina spot is a bit closer, coming in at 3.5 hours away from Chattanooga. Their amenities include cafeteria style dining, beverage service, a full-service rental department, Ski & Ride Center, an on-site gift and gear shop, individual rentable lockers, remote parking shuttle service, as well as complimentary Wi-Fi.

Hatley Pointe Mountain Ski Resort – This large resort is located in Mars Hill, NC. They offer everything your family needs: lodging, snow school, lessons, tubing, and more! This winter hot spot is 4 hours away. This is another spot that has everything you need…you won’t have to leave the mountain!

Sugar Mountain Ski Resort – This popular winter resort in Sugar Mountain, NC offers skiing, snowboarding, tubing, ice skating, and snowshoeing. There are several lodging options nearby, including several spas. Ski school is available for little ones, and child care is available for babies and toddlers. This location is just over 4 hours away from Chattanooga.

Beech Mountain Resort – This mountain village in Beech Mountain, NC is practically its own little winter town! Skiing, snowboarding, skating, and tubing are all offered at this beautiful mountain village. Lessons and child care options are available as well. Daily events at the lodge will keep your family entertained when you’re not on the slopes. This popular spot is 4.5 hours away from Chattanooga.
