Not Your Normal Hospital Bag

What’s in my hospital bag? With less than a week away from my due date, I have finally packed my hospital bag! I have read many lists of “must haves” that were very helpful, but of course, my bag is a little different. One thing I have heard consistently is that your time in the hospital can be a bit boring, so in addition to the necessities, I’ve made sure we have some items to keep us busy and entertained.

My hospital bag definitely contains the normal must-haves including a robe, loose-fitting clothing, multiple pajamas, toiletries, and more for me. And for baby boy I’ve packed sleepers, blankets, pacifiers, and of course, his going home outfit.

However, I do have a few unusual extras that I have a feeling will help enhance our time in the hospital and definitely keep us from boredom:

Apple TV

When we toured the hospital, one of the things my husband looked for was an HDMI cable plugin on the TVs to allow for an Apple TV hook up in both the labor room and postpartum room. Fortunately, we saw that all the TVs had the HDMI cable plugins. With our Apple TV, we will have hours of Hulu, Netflix, sports, and shows on all of our apps.

Books

Recently, my husband and I purchased a couple of books that we have been interested in reading and plan to start these as we have some time in the hospital.

Card Games

What started out as some entertainment for our niece and nephew when visiting us in the hospital, quickly turned into our own entertainment. While we were picking up a couple of kids’ card games, we decided to grab a couple of card games for ourselves and the rest of our family as well. Our family games at home can get a little competitive (all in fun), so I’m interested to see how it goes in the hospital with a newborn.

 Mani/Pedi Kit

I have a professional manicure/pedicure kit at home that I use on myself and anyone that will let me pamper them. I love to give manis and pedis! I have packed this kit to pamper myself and/or others to make sure we are all pretty for baby boy’s arrival.

I am sure we will be busy ooh-ing and aah-ing over our new addition and will not have enough time to enjoy all of these entertainment options, but with all types of packing, my philosophy is always “bring more than you need, you can always unpack it later.”
