Recently, our Chattanooga Moms Blog contributors were treated to a night of fun at Painting With a Twist, a new paint party location here in Chattanooga. Located conveniently off East Brainerd Road, the space is clean and new and easy to find!
Upon walking in, I was struck by the bright colors, open spaces, and great music! Along the walls they have displayed many of the paintings they can offer, along with “rules” for painting (which is mainly just have fun with it). There is a main room, visible from the front door and a smaller party room as well. The studio has a “Bring Your Own” policy (beverages and snacks), and there is a long table provided in the main room to put all of your goodies.
Blank canvases were set up for each of us, and our names were posted underneath a canvas. Paints and brushes were already nearby and ready to use! Amy, our instructor/artist, and Hannah, her assistant, were quick to engage us in conversation and help ease any fears we may have had.
With a steady stream of pop music from the ’90s and ’00s playing, we dug in, following Amy’s directions. She was quick to give us artistic license, but she gave great advice about how to make a really great painting. As a coat of paint would dry, Amy would have us a play a game – a friendly competition to win a prize! These games gave us a break from painting, a chance to visit with each other, and gave our canvases time to dry.
The whole process took fewer than two hours – and a decent amount of that time was spent chatting across the tables, singing to some great guilty pleasure music, and partaking in our BYO food and drink.
Painting With a Twist has been in Chattanooga for only a few months, but they are off to a great start! The staff was warm and friendly, and they were helpful along every step of the way. They offer 2- and 3-hour painting parties throughout the week and weekend, as well as private parties that are customizable.
Painting With a Twist offers private parties for any occasion (for parties of 10 or more), not limited to the following types of events:
- Birthday parties
- Bachelorette parties
- Date nights
- Girls’ Night Out
- Baby Showers
- Children’s parties
One of the more interesting things I learned during our time there is that Painting With a Twist donates some of the instructor paintings (because they paint alongside you at every party) to Habitat for Humanity, so that families receiving a Habitat home will have original art on the walls!
So go check them out and look at their calendar – I loved the painting I created, the process of making it, and the atmosphere of the whole place. I’m already looking for an excuse to go back soon!
