Although the holiday season is upon us and we may not get to experience our time together the same this year, there’s no reason you can’t look great in family photos!
Here are my top five holiday beauty staples for looking fab (even if you’re just sitting on the couch). I have included some local brands, drugstore brands, as well as high-end brands to fit the needs of any glam girl!
1. A red lip
Every girl needs a signature red lipstick! Don’t think you can pull off a red lip with your skin tone? You can! Red lipstick comes in varying tones, so there is a color out there for everyone! Also, try dabbing the lip color on with your finger for a more diffused look if you aren’t ready to go full force! And this holiday season, let’s support local, indie brands!
LipsByB is a local lipstick brand that has a wide range of colors and a holiday red to suit you! The colors are not only pigmented, but comfortable and long lasting!
2. A good eyeliner
Eyeliner can give some definition to your entire look without being “too much.” But, there are certain kinds. For newbies, I would suggest a gel pencil. Gel pencils easily glide across your lash line with little to no effort. For a more dramatic effect, use an angled eyeliner brush with gel liner to create a wing. Also, for my fair skinned girls, try using a brown liner! It will give a more subtle effect while still adding definition.
Rimmel Scandal Eyes Gel Waterproof eyeliner is a great liner for your budget that is highly pigmented and creamy!
IT Cosmetics No Tug Gel Eyeliner is a liner does NOT move! It’s long-lasting and doesn’t smudge throughout the day.
3. Shimmer lids
During the holiday season, a great way to amplify any makeup look is with a shimmer lid! If you are not an eye shadow wearer or just don’t know how to apply, find a good shimmer shade to apply with your finger. A cool or warm tone with some shimmer can create a fun, holiday look without all the fuss!
Colourpop Super Shock Shadows provide a simple color you can use every day. They are highly pigmented and glide on perfectly with your finger.
Juvia’s Place is perfect for glam girls with some makeup experience that want to try more colors and definition. They offer a variety of bold palettes as well as neutral, starter palettes.
4. Lashes, lashes, lashes
Lashes have been all the rage lately for ladies who like to doll it up! But, if you don’t know how to apply them, there are options for beginners. Try using an accent lash. They apply with glue also, but it’s hard to get them wrong! Add a small flair lash to your outer lash line to create doll-like effect. Also, try magnetic lash glue; it really works. Tori Belle offers magnetic eyeliner as well as lashes. Line your eyes like normal and the lash will automatically adhere within seconds!
5. Skin care is key
For you to look and feel your best with or without makeup, treat yourself to some skin care. As it gets colder across the country, hydration is key, so it’s good to invest in a quality facial. Check out Sonita Michelle Esthetics Company. She specializes in all things skin and lash extensions (her chemical peel changed my life). She is in the heart of NorthShore and will offer various specials throughout this holiday season to give your skin a boost. She also sells her own line of skin care products called SkinTechs, so you can treat yourself at home. Even better, pick up a gift card for a girlfriend who needs some self-care; She will appreciate it!
