During the dog days of summer, Chattanooga is a hot, humid, and steamy place. When the heat strikes, there’s nothing better than finding a swimming hole where you can cool off. Chattanooga is full of great swimming holes that you and your family can enjoy!
Chattanooga Swimming Holes
Suck Creek: Just outside of downtown Chattanooga, lies Suck Creek. Located at the foot of Signal Mountain, this spot has become more and more popular the last few years. It’s an easy hike, and you can find a mixture of open pools and rapids. There are many pull-off areas on Suck Creek Road where you can park, but keep little ones close as this is a very busy road. This is one of our favorite spots to take our boys to each summer.
Laurel Snow Pocket Wilderness: Located in Dayton, Tennessee, Laurel Snow Pocket Wilderness is another popular swimming hole and hiking area. The trails are easy and the swimming area is safe for children. If you make your way up to Dayton to visit this sweet spot, expect a crowd…it’s very popular with locals.
Chickamauga Dam/Chickamauga Lake: On the lake side of the Chickamauga Dam, there’s a great swimming area for families. It’s roped off to keep little ones from going too far, and there’s a fantastic playground on site. There are picnic tables and a public restroom as well.
Chester Frost Park: This is another popular spot on Chickamauga Lake. Located in Hixson, this area has camping sites, a playground, pavilions, and a beach area. The summer months are always crowded here, so keep that in mind as you plan your day there.
Red Clay Resort/Farmer’s Lake: This spot is located in Cohutta, Georgia, and is a spring fed pool that keeps you cool in the summer. There, you’ll find food, changing rooms, restrooms, rentals, and plenty of shady areas to enjoy when the sun is hot.
Rainbow Lake: This is another well-known spot in Chattanooga. Located at the foot of Signal Mountain, this is an easy hike for families. Dogs are welcome as long as they are on leashes.
Big Soddy Gulf Creek: This is a hopping spot in Soddy Daisy, Tennessee. It’s an easy hike along the creek, and there are several swimming spots along the way. This is a high traffic spot, so be prepared for crowds.
Blue Hole Soddy Daisy: This is one of the most well-known swimming holes in the Chattanooga area. Also located in Soddy Daisy, the Blue Hole is a summer hot spot. There are shallow pools, deep pools, and plenty of boulders for jumping in. It fills up quickly, so you may want to get here early for parking.
Crockford-Pigeon Mountain Blue Hole: Located in Walker County, Georgia, this swimming spot is located at the foot of Pigeon Mountain. It’s an easy walk from the parking area, and despite being a smaller pool, many locals swim here all summer long.
Foster Falls: Located on Monteagle Mountain, this swimming spot is best known for its beautiful waterfall. You can enjoy the beauty of nature while cooling down in the waterfall’s pool.
Whatever swimming hole you decide to visit in our area, I hope you find it relaxing and refreshing!
